About This Course

This course seeks to enhance the four skills of English language through rigorous practice. The practice of reading skills puts emphasis on inferring, understanding, classifying and relating textual information contextually. In writing, the students learn to demonstrate different mechanics and structure of writing. The listening and speaking skills focus on the correct structure of spoken English and pronunciation.

In addition, the course also focuses on various social and interpersonal skills like national and global thinking, innovation, critical thinking, as well as the spontaneous use of technology by integrating them with language teaching and learning.

Requirements

  • Students must diligently follow the online instructions for every weekly activity.
  • All the assessments and other academic activities have to be completed and submitted in due time.
  • Students will be evaluated through regular participation and various assessments.
  • Students are requested to maintain the basic online etiquette with their faculty members and fellow learners.
  • Students must obtain 70% marks (‘B-’ Grade) to complete the course.
  • 85% attendance in the Live-Sessions is mandatory.

What are the benefits of doing ENG091?

In this course, you will be focusing on many aspects of English language learning that varies from tasks like pronunciation and word meaning to tasks such as annotation, various types of textual and visual analysis, preparing presentations and different forms of English writing. Furthermore, you will improve your critical thinking and analytical ability.

How long do I have to study in a week?

Your formal classes will generally take up three hours approximately over a week. Other than that, your tasks and assignments per each week should not take more than an additional two to three hours. If you feel you need to study more, you can always practice the additional materials uploaded on the website.

With whom should I communicate during my engagement with the course?

In ENG091, you will have your respective section with an assigned instructor with whom you can share your problems via relevant platforms the university is using. In addition, you can join in the regular classes if any issue arises. On the other hand, your teacher will communicate with you when it is necessary.

Is it possible to improve my language skills through this course?

It is widely accepted that the development of language skills can be possible with adequate practice and dedication. ENG091 course offers many spaces for practising reading, writing, speaking and listening. The weekly lessons, course materials and assignments will surely help you develop your language skills.

The students will be evaluated through different assessment processes like quizzes, assignments, presentations, midterm and final examinations.
