Course Objectives

  • Make students familiar with the architecture of Intel 80x86 microprocessor and the associated components of a computer system.
  • Introduce the various instruction sets, addressing modes and interrupt handling issues in 8086-based microprocessor systems.
  • Introduce the purpose of direct memory access (DMA) and how DMA controller 8237 circuit works.
  • Prepare student on microprocessor based interfacing techniques with external devices
  • Introduce assembly language programs for interfacing to various devices using the hardware kit
